I gave this ★★★, but I maybe feel more like ★★ toward it. For me, that would normally be a DNF, but since I persevered I hate to be so cold. Besides that, I met the author at a convention and liked him, and kinda enjoyed an "Elementary" tie-in book he wrote, so I kept reading and tried real real hard to love this book.

I didn't.

However, it had enough cool ideas to give me something to think about. Super heroes in a pocket universe that feels like a noir thriller, with robots and airships. Honestly, it shoulda worked.

The mystery plot wanders and is super fuzzy, and I didn't care about the characters or connect with them. The stakes changed and didn't seem to be all that important. Not to me, anyway. And the action is more inexplicable than exciting in key scenes. Murky motivations. Random movement. I didn't get it.

Not my thing, in the end.
