My rating: 4 of 5 stars
If there were half stars, I'd give 3.5. It was pretty entertaining, in its way, but it wasn't great. I'm ambivalent.
This is the second in the series, and i almost always like Sherlock-style books, this one included. The crime, the suspects, the clues all work together just fine. It's a puzzle that needs to be solved. The disappointment, for me, is that the characters are so dull. So emotionless. I was curious about the story but not emotionally invested. To be fair, that's pretty much how I felt reading almost every original Sherlock story, but modern Sherlock retellings or reimaginings tend to improve on the original here, making us care about them and feel connected.
So--pretty good. Good enough I'm gonna read the third book in the series. But not satisfying. Still, if you like Sherlock stuff, you might well enjoy this book.
